What are my aquarium snails doing?

I was bored! It was Saturday afternoon, and I’d been banished to the living room because my grown-up son had invited some friends to come and drink around the kitchen table.

I sat on the sofa for a while, looking at the messages on my phone before becoming distracted by the shenanigans happening in my fish tank.

Two snails were at ‘it’ on the glass fronting of the fish tank, or were they fighting?

It was extraordinary to watch. It looked as if the snail atop the other was attempting to pull its shell off. Brings a whole new meaning to ‘Having it off’!

It was so mesmerizing that I used my phone to film it happening. It continued for quite some time before both snails separated and departed in opposite directions.

My ongoing boredom that day caused me to research aquarium snails. I knew nothing about the snails I had introduced to my aquarium some weeks before, except that they would help keep my tank clean and eat the debris and algae.
